After reading an article for my class called Preparing Students for the 21st Century: How can teachers incorporate new technologies into elementary classrooms, I came across the idea of using WebQuests. I have heard of WebQuests before but have never done one in my classroom. I am planning on doing a webquest with my third graders in a couple of weeks when we are learning about Recycling. Here is the link http://people.emich.edu/smasty/green/task.html.I like this WebQuest because students can click on different links to learn about recycling and then share their learning by creating a skit, comic, or brochure. I did check the links and a couple of them do not work, but I think they will be able to find enough information from the other websites to complete the assignment.

ReplyDeleteYour idea of using WebQuests inspires me to search for a WebQuest for my Healthy Bodies Unit. A WebQuest provides students with opportunities to research and learn more about a topic and what I love about yours is that it also has an assessment opportunity. I would like to get away from having my students test at the end of my Unit Studies class, but instead have project based assessment such as this!
I need to utilize WebQuests in my classroom too! I love that someone else has done the time-consuming task of creating them and then I get to reap the benefits of their hard work. But it is important to check the links and resources before sending students out to explore- just like you did! Then maybe after I get familiar with them, I could create one of my own!
ReplyDeleteWe study Recycling 4th quarter in Science. I'll have to check out this WebQuest, and see if it could be applicable for my 2nd graders. It's hard to find time to create this type of thing on your own due to time.....I love being able to use something that works that someone else has created! Especially if it is engaging and relates to what we are studying!
ReplyDeleteIts the same issue of deadlinks that happened with some of the links in the text. I guess it comes with the tetritory.
