Lessons Taught and Lessons Learned
Taking a class about how to integrate technology into the classroom encouraged me to try new things and has definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Over the course of the semester I taught my students how to use Haiku Deck and Story Jumper. I also taught myself how to use Popplet, Educanon, and Educreations to make my lessons more engaging. In addition, I had the opportunity to create a quiz on Kahoot and share it with parents and students at a technology night.
What I have learned from this experience is using technology in the classroom makes learning more engaging and fun for my students. I remember watching them the first time they got to use Haiku Deck and being amazed at how much they enjoyed working on that assignment. I have also learned that technology projects take time but are definitely worth it. In the future, I hope to continue to learn more about different apps and websites so that I can continue to make learning fun for my students.
This class did the same thing for me. It pushed me to try some things I never would have before. And my students definitely gained from what I learned in this class. There are so many amazing ways to integrate technology into teaching and learning. My plan is to try/explore at least one new app or site a month. That way I won't become overwhelmed, but I'll keep trying out new things to keep my students learning fresh, new, and exciting.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that your students enjoyed Haiku Deck! As a new third grade teacher its great to hear things that other teachers have tried. My goal is use technology within my classroom as much as possible! There are so many great apps out there to try! Thanks for your ideas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lessons learned. Your comments about Haiku Deck motivate me to learn how to use it. I downloaded it earlier in the session, but haven't had a chance to use it.
ReplyDeleteI agree- I look at apps all of the time but the class forced me to act upon the information I learned.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have been able to incorporate lots of great apps into your instruction. I agree that students are highly motivated by the use of technology and it makes teaching fun too! It definitely takes time to figure things out, but I'm finding it is usually worth it.
ReplyDeleteSara- It has been such a great experience taking this class with you and trying out/discussing new technologies to use with our students! I can also tell that students are so much more engaged when we incorporate technology.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you about what a great experience this has been. It really got me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to try some new things in my classroom. Some were great and some not so much. All part of learning. Students were much more engaged when technology was incorporated.
ReplyDeleteI was definitely pushed...sometimes even overwhelmed. There are so many great apps and websites that I would go home with a list to try and not know where to begin. I was so appreciative when others would get up and share their projects (Thank You) because then I could really see how to use it with a group of kids. Looking forward to having the 1-1 initiative with chromebooks so kids will have access to the technology more often. It also scares me...will I be able to keep up with all of the things out there. :)
